After completing 12th, Graduation and Post Graduation and B.Ed., you can apply for teaching job. At every level, different skills abilities and qualifications are required.

a.    For Pre-Primary School teacher – NTT examination. For one year Diploma in Early Childhood Education (D.E.C.Ed.) for 2 years after class 12th.

b.    For Primary School teacher – ETE (Elementary Teacher Education) for 2 years, Bachelors in Elementary Education ( B.Ed.) for 4 years or Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed) for 2 years.

c.     For Secondary School Teacher – TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed.) after graduation from a teaching subject (non-professional, degree course).

d.    For Senior Secondary School Teacher – PGT (Post Graduate Teacher), Post-Graduation degree in a technical subject (non-professional – degree course) and a Bachelor’s Education (B.Ed.) degree, Post-graduation in any discipline.

e.    Special Education – Deal with children with physical, emotional and mental challenges and learning disabilities. You need B.Ed. in special education.

f.      Lecture / Professor – After completing Master’s degree, you will have to appear for the UGC – NET examination. It is conducted twice a year particularly in the month of June and December.

Become a Teacher

We Know as become a teacher in India, it is very important for candidates to have a bachelor’s degree in education (B.Ed). One can also pursue a master’s degree in the same (M.Ed) to add to their qualification and to increase one’s employability.
Apart from this candidates can also opt for Basic Training Certificate (BTC) or Diploma in Education (D.Ed) or  Teaching Training Certificate depending upon one’s interest. Candidates who are interested in government jobs through the Central Board of Secondary Education can also appear for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). This exam is conducted by CBSE for the appointment as a teacher for classes 1st to 8th.
  • A candidate must have a B.Ed degree (Bachelor’s of Education) with a minimum of 55% marks is required to become a teacher. The pass percentage required may vary from school to school.
  • Apart from a B.Ed degree some schools also ask for master’s degree in the respective field to teach higher classes.
  • There are various national and state level examinations for admission into B.Ed programmes.
To become Government Teacher, aspirants should have the basic qualification required for the level aspirant aims to teach, that is Primary, Elementary and at Intercollegiate level.  Candidate should have acquired Senior Secondary /Graduation/Post Graduation required to apply for the Teacher Training course such as NTT/BTC, BEd and Other.
Further candidates are required to obtain Teacher Eligibility Certificate by qualifying Teacher Eligibility Test. These Teacher Eligibility Tests are held at State and Central level by institutions authorised to conduct these test by State or Central Government.
